THE EDIT JOURNAL / SILHOUETTE

One good jacket.
Many days of your life.

Start not with a photograph, but with a week in your own life. How much walking, driving and how many work meetings does it hold? A jacket should fit into that rhythm.

Look at the proportions.

The shoulder line, length and sleeve volume change the feel of the whole look. Try on outerwear over the layer you will actually wear beneath it. Check your movement: raise your arms, sit down, zip up.

Make room for repeat wear.

The most useful piece is not necessarily the most noticeable. Picture it with three combinations you already wear. If it works without changing your entire wardrobe, that is a good reason to look closer.
